Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States named two ways to interact with Russia

Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova in an interview with Lb.ua on Tuesday, December 28, spoke about the preparation of “Plan B” to contain Russia.

“Now all of us – Ukraine, the United States, the West – are working on option A, diplomatic containment, so that we do not have to switch to option B, for which everyone is actively preparing,” Markarova said.

What it is, the diplomat did not tell. At the same time, she added that the United States and “the entire civilized world” do not want a military outcome of events and are focused on the diplomatic resolution of conflicts.

“At the same time, there is an understanding that Ukrainian sovereignty is being threatened, and the United States is not ready to sacrifice it,” the diplomat concluded in an interview.

Markarova also stated that the participation of the United States in the existing Normandy format to resolve the situation in Donbass is difficult from a diplomatic point of view. At the moment, the United States does not officially participate in summits attended by representatives from Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France.

“We understand that … it’s easier to join new formats than to become part of platforms where certain mechanisms are already in place,” the diplomat noted.

On Wednesday, December 28, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that Russia is not planning a military operation against Ukraine, but reserves the right to promptly use its Armed Forces to protect Russian citizens abroad.

On the eve of the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin said that NATO is planning a military containment of Russia, while earlier the alliance paid attention to joint projects. Fomin also stressed that Russia is always open to partnership with the West.

In December, a number of Western media published information about the alleged plans of the Russian Federation to “invade” Ukraine. So, on December 4, the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing officials in the US administration, reported that Russia allegedly intends to invade Ukraine at the beginning of next year, using “up to 175 thousand troops.” Moscow has repeatedly rejected such false data.

On December 23, during a press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin answered a question about Russia’s alleged plans to “invade” Ukraine. According to him, such statements give the impression that the Ukrainian side is “preparing a third operation” in Donbass.
