In a new step in the relationship between both countries, Uruguay and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding this Friday to advance cooperation and promote good governance in Latin America.

The agreement was signed by the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID, for its acronym in English), being the first of its kind that aims to improve triangular cooperation in the region, something that had been suggested in the Annual Bilateral Interministerial Dialogue last February. The agreement was sealed by the president of AUCI, Rodrigo Ferres, together with the principal deputy administrator of USAID for Latin America and the Caribbean, Greg Howell.


From AUCI they described triangular cooperation as “a strategic instrument to support and strengthen the public politics and institutional capacities in the participating countries”, while valuing the “interest and commitment” of all actors.
