The government signed an agreement to establish an “open skies” system with Ecuador, with the objective of operating direct routes, improving the connectivity and promote the business relationship between both countries.

The agreement was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noting that it means an instrument to “boost connectivity, promote the development of air markets and strengthen the commercial relationship” between both countries.

A similar agreement with Argentina is approaching
This agreement adds to the negotiations that are progressing between the government and its counterpart Argentina for an agreement with similar characteristics, as emerged after a meeting between the Uruguayan ambassador in that country, Carlos Enciso; the Argentine Secretary of Transportation, Franco Mogetta; and the Undersecretary of Air Transport, Hernán Gómez.
After the inauguration of the president Javier Milei and the entry into force of DNU 70/2023, the deregulation of the air market, which would allow any airline to fly to any destination without restrictions, with the idea of promoting competence.
According to reports, the agreement would be signed in a few weeks and the government believes that the initiative “is clearly in line with President Milei’s vision, in terms of providing maximum business and activity freedom,” while highlighting that “it coincides with what that Uruguay I had been calling for it for a long time and it is only now finding an echo.”
