Major operation on Saturday afternoon in the municipality of Schalchen (Braunau district): Two emergency medical helicopters, five rescue vehicles, three fire departments and the police were alerted at around 3:45 p.m. after a serious traffic accident occurred on the Oberinnviertel state road. According to initial information, three cars, with a total of ten people on board, were involved in the accident.
A 28-year-old from the Ried district, who was traveling towards Mattighofen with his girlfriend (27) and their two children aged two and six, lost control of his car in a right-hand bend and went over the middle of the road, where he collided with the oncoming car of a 45-year-old from the Braunau district.
Children and infant seriously injured
The family’s car was thrown head-on into the car of a 27-year-old Bosnian woman from Wels. In the car with her were her two daughters, aged just five months and seven years, her 37-year-old sister from the Braunau district and her 10-year-old daughter.
Nine of the ten people involved were injured in the accident, six of them seriously. The police said this in response to an inquiry from OÖN. According to information from the police, children and the infant were among the seriously injured. All those affected were cared for by the rescue services and taken to hospitals for further treatment, two of them by helicopter.
Hours of use
The Mattighofen, Schalchen and Furth-Unterlochen fire departments were on duty for hours to remove the dirt from the road and to recover the badly damaged vehicles. The Oberinnviertel state road had to be closed in the area of the accident site and a diversion was set up.
