Uruguay advanced in the authorization to export thermo-processed meat to China

The official mission of Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) that is promoting the Uruguayan meat industry in Asia progressed in the authorization to be able to export thermo-processed products to Chinaaccording to what was confirmed by himself Minister Fernando Mattos in Shanghai.

Mattos assured Tardáguila Agromercados that the approval of the thermoprocessed products “is at the door”, and that among these would be the beef jerkydehydrated meat also known as “charque”, which would have “a certain possibility of being enabled.”

In that sense, he referred to the possibility of also enabling bovine tripe and poultry meat, and positively valued the “prestige” that Uruguayan meat has consolidated within the Asian market over the years. “Uruguay is known for football and meat, and a great cumulative work has been done in this regard,” explained the leader.

On the other hand, the head of the MGAP maintained that, although a better global agreement was not achieved for the access of Uruguayan products in China through a tariff reduction, “we have made much more progress than the neighbors regarding specific authorizations.”

How will MGAP’s mission continue in Southeast Asia?

After the Uruguayan delegation visited France to participate in the election of the new president of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHOSA), on May 29 they left for China attend the SIAL international fair in Shanghai. From there, on June 3 he will meet with the Indonesian Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaimanto sign a memorandum of understanding and cooperation, with the goal of opening that market for products such as beef, citrus fruits and dairy products.

On June 5, he will leave for Malaysia to hold a meeting with the authorities of this country, including Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, in a search to obtain authorizations for the entry of beef and sheep into that market. The return to Uruguay It will take place on June 7.
