In Ebersbach an der Fils, southeast of Stuttgart, the city administration called on residents to prepare for evacuations. During the night, the weather service lifted the warnings of storms with heavy rain.
According to the DWD, there will still be showers in some areas, with possible heavy rain, particularly in southern Germany. From Monday afternoon, this will mainly affect areas south of the Danube and the Bavarian Forest. According to the weather service, there is a continuous rain warning for the Upper Swabia and Allgäu regions for the rest of the day until Monday evening. As a result of the rain expected south of the Danube, the water level in the tributaries of the Danube and Lake Constance in the Upper Swabia region may rise again.

Firefighter dies in Bavaria
On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is expected in the flood area. He is travelling to Reichertshofen with Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). Like so many other towns, the Upper Bavarian market was flooded by masses of water over the weekend. The cause was the heavy, persistent rain, which caused rivers and streams to overflow their banks in many places. Several municipalities declared a state of emergency, at least one person – a firefighter on duty in Bavaria – was killed, and another was missing.
According to the flood intelligence service, the floods in Bavaria are slowly receding in many places on the tributaries of the Danube. The highest levels have largely been reached here, according to the situation report released on Monday night. The floods are now increasingly concentrated on the Danube itself. However, further rainfall could delay the further receding.
Train cancellations and delays in long-distance traffic
The persistent rain and the tense flood situation continue to affect rail traffic in southern Germany. Due to the storm damage, travelers in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg must expect train cancellations and delays in long-distance traffic on Monday, as Deutsche Bahn announced on its website.

According to the report, Munich is currently not accessible by long-distance trains from Stuttgart, Würzburg and Nuremberg. Train cancellations are occurring on routes between Munich and Berlin and between Stuttgart and Frankfurt, among others. Travelers should expect the trains that are still running to be very busy. Deutsche Bahn also advises against travelling to the affected flood areas in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Travelers can use their tickets at a later date, it said.
Location in Upper Austria
Due to the heavy rainfall in Bavaria, the emergency services in Upper Austria have also taken preventive measures in accordance with the Danube flood emergency plan. In the coming hours, the Inn’s outflows will rise – and with them the water levels of the Danube in the state over the course of Monday, the state’s hydrographic service announced on Monday morning. In the evening, the warning limits are also expected to be exceeded here. The highest water levels on the Inn and Danube are then expected on Tuesday. Thunderstorms are also possible in Upper Austria, which can lead to rapid increases in smaller bodies of water and cause small-scale flooding.
