Gerald Stutz’s “bucket list” of things that one absolutely wants to experience in life is particularly long. He has already fulfilled and ticked off many wishes that would probably take others more than three lifetimes to achieve. The former deputy mayor of Kallham, who now lives in Rüstorf, has already traveled to 125 different countries and is working on visiting all 2093 municipalities in Austria at least once. After Upper Austria, Salzburg and Burgenland, he has just finished visiting Carinthia. Governor Peter Kaiser also congratulated him on this. The 61-year-old Stutz documents every municipality visit with a photo of himself with the respective place name sign.
The OÖNachrichten reached the globetrotter at the weekend during a concert tour with the Neumarkt/Hausruck marching band in Radenci in Slovenia. “I have my days off planned until November, and this year I’m planning trips to the Channel Islands, the Algarve and Tanzania with my wife Jutta,” says the deputy chairman of the works council at Raiffeisenlandesbank. He is not a repeat offender, but is always looking for new destinations. “The bucket list that we work through is not a compulsion, we do what we enjoy,” says Stutz. His wife Jutta conveniently works in a travel agency and shares his passion. He has been a travel companion himself for 22 years, for example this week on a river cruise in the Netherlands. They plan their big vacations together in a two-year annual plan.
Open book for all
On his website, the globetrotter has documented his entire life, his travels and curiosities, such as water samples from all over the world, his collection of shot glasses, the 429 snacks he has enjoyed or meetings with celebrities such as football star David Alaba, Olympic champion Michaela Dorfmeister and Pope Benedict XVI.
