The man and three companions are said to have met the suspect in Arthaberpark in Favoriten on the night of Monday. An argument broke out there. The 30-year-old suffered cuts and stab wounds to his neck, stomach and legs, said police spokesman Mattias Schuster. His companions eventually pulled the attacker away from the victim, who fled.
It was no coincidence that the 30-year-old and the suspected stabber met at around 1 a.m. in a green area in the park: “There must have been an argument beforehand,” said Schuster, the background to the incident remaining unclear for the time being.
Perpetrator still on the run
The “discussion” escalated into the knife attack – the unknown suspect is said to have pulled out the murder weapon, but it has not yet been found. The man “subsequently fled in the direction of Inzersdorfer Strasse. An immediate manhunt was unsuccessful,” said the spokesman.
The three companions alerted the emergency services. “The injured man was given emergency medical treatment by the Vienna rescue service and taken to a hospital.” On Monday afternoon, the victim was still being treated in an intensive care unit. “There is a risk to his life,” they said.
