The Union of Exporters of Uruguay (UEU) will present to PIT-CNT the document that he introduced to the face-to-face candidates last week with the aim of strengthening ties with the union center and pressuring changes in the economy that help the productive sector of the Uruguay.
This Monday the meeting will take place between the PIT-CNT and the Exporters Union, who intend to be part of the discussion about the steps that the next government should take to develop the sector. “We believe that the Uruguay We have to build it together with the differences we might have,” stressed the president of the Exporters Union, Facundo Marquez.
“On Monday we will meet with the PIT-CNT because they have to be part of the discussion and understand what our concerns are, which in the end end up being for greater investment, work and well-being of the entire country, so we are all in this boat,” Márquez explained to the De Siembre program. .
The keys to the proposal
Previously, the UEU presented this document to the pre-candidates and their technical teams, where it states that the sector considers it key to consolidate a growth without poverty and with a better educational level to make Uruguay more attractive.
“To achieve sustainable export development, it is essential to improve the conditions of competitiveness and the country’s international insertion,” the letter states.
There are five points on which he proposes the next president of the Republic to work: improving international insertion, reduce logistics costs and increase the connectivitylower production costs and promote competition, consolidate the macroeconomic stability and promote a sustainable development.
The problem of exchange delay
The economic sectors have been suffering from exchange rate delays for years and the EUU document did not let it pass. “We consider that monetary policy must be in tune with the local and international macroeconomic situation, avoiding exchange rate misalignments that harm the productive export sector,” say the exporters. “This goes hand in hand with a change in governance and independence of the BCU”, they add.
In line with other business chambers, the Union of Exporters defended the free floating exchange ratebut called on the monetary authorities to develop management mechanisms for large foreign investments to avoid their impact on the foreign exchange market of the Uruguay.
Regarding the so-called new fiscal institutionality, the export union proposes reviewing the public spending efficiency. “The focus should be on expenditures, since the tax burden is high and we propose lowering it. We believe that this is the way to reduce the fiscal deficit and achieve a controlled trajectory of public debt,” he points out.
