Eight people were taken to hospital by the Vienna rescue service with suspected smoke poisoning. According to a spokesperson, however, the situation was not life-threatening. Four people were able to be discharged into home care.
The Vienna Fire Department was informed of the fire when the automatic fire alarm system was triggered. They then moved to the senior citizens’ residence with 14 vehicles and 60 men under alarm level 2.
A fire brigade wearing breathing apparatus entered the heavily smoke-filled room and found the lifeless person. The fire was extinguished by 6 p.m. The cause of the fire was still being investigated. The Vienna rescue service took over care on site. The more seriously injured people were then taken to hospital.
