Pope Francis will lead a conference on the debt crises of the countries of the Global South

During the event, the debt crises of the countries of the Global South will be discussed, what reforms should urgently be adopted for the international financial and tax architecture for sustainable financing and the IMF’s lending policies.

He Pope Francisco will host, in the Vatican, a summit of economists who will analyze the debt crises of the countries of the Global South. There will be, among others, the Nobel Prize in Economics, Joseph Stiglitz, and the former minister Martin Guzman.

The meeting is organized by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences (PASS) and the Columbia University Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD). During the event, debt crises will be discussed, what reforms should urgently be adopted for the international financial and tax architecture for sustainable financing and the IMF’s lending policies.

Among those present will be Martín Guzmán, Joseph Stiglitz, Fernando Haddad (Minister of Economy of Brazil), Jay Shambaugh (Undersecretary of International Relations of the US Treasury), Carlos Body (Minister of Economy of Spain), Emmanuel Moulin (Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of France Emmanuel Macron, and former president of the Paris Club), Antoinette Sayeh (Deputy Managing Director of the IMF), Markus Brunnermeier (professor at Princeton University), Nadia Calviño (president of the European Investment Bank, former vice president of Spain ), Jin Liqun (President and Chair of the Board of Directors, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank), Albert Muchanga (Commissioner of the African Union, Argentines among the participants).

In addition to Martin Guzmán, there will be the Argentines Guido Sandleris (former president of the BCRA), Gustavo Béliz (academic member of the PASS and former secretary of Strategic Affairs of Alberto Fernández), Sebastián Ceria (founder and president of Fundar) and Maia Colodenco (director of the Department of Global Initiatives of Suramericana Visión, and former Secretary of International Affairs of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation).
