Corresponding reports from ORF Carinthia were confirmed by the Austrian Archaeological Institute (ÖAI). The Carinthian woman led the excavations of Austrian archaeologists in the ancient city of Ephesus on the Turkish Aegean coast for 14 years. Only today was Martin Steskal announced as the new excavation director.
Ladstätter was born on November 22, 1968 in Klagenfurt, studied ancient history and archaeology as well as classical archaeology at the University of Graz, and specialized in economic archaeology. In 1997 she completed her doctorate in classical archaeology at the University of Vienna. From 1987 to 1998 she worked on the excavations at Hemmaberg in Carinthia, and from 1992 onwards she was the local excavation director. Ladstätter worked in Ephesus from 1995, became deputy excavation director, took over the management of the ÖAI in 2009 and finally the excavation director in Ephesus in 2010.
