In the absence of the overall World Cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin, who was missing due to a coronavirus infection, Vlhova celebrated a much-anticipated victory. Already after the first round she was in the lead, 0.08 ahead of Gisin and 0.27 ahead of Liensberger. For the 26-year-old it was the 23rd career success in the World Cup and the third (slalom) victory of the current season.

“I’m really happy,” said the second Liensberger in the ORF interview. “It wasn’t easy. It really took full attack and full courage.” With the fastest runtime in the finals, the troupe advanced from 13th place at halftime almost to the podium. “I like to take the best time with me. I know that I can ski well,” emphasized the Carinthian. “So the year can end.”

Gallhuber was also happy. “I think I showed that racing is still inside of me. It was very, very cool that I saw green again at the finish line. That was really not in the World Cup race for a long time,” said she Lower Austrian.

Katharina Huber (“The attack in the second run was already better”) finished the race in 15th place, Marie-Therese Sporer scored in 17th World Cup points. Chiara Mair was 23. Franziska Gritsch, Magdalena Egger and Stephanie Brunner had missed qualifying for the top 30 in the morning.
