In order to produce more clean electricity through PV, another call for tenders for “model and lighthouse photovoltaic projects” was launched on Tuesday. 40 million euros, funded by the Climate Protection Ministry, are intended to “give the expansion of innovative PV a further strong boost and initiate a broad implementation of innovative PV systems,” the Climate and Energy Fund announced. The call for tenders runs until November 5th, 12:00 p.m.
It is emphasized that the projects should be clearly different from standard PV systems on roofs or open spaces. In addition, innovative systems that are eligible for funding should be both technically and economically reproducible. Particular emphasis is placed on holistic concepts such as energy management systems.
Austria’s goal is to generate 100 percent of its electricity from renewable energies by 2030, the Climate and Energy Fund reminded in its press release. The key to this is the extensive use of solar energy and the expansion of photovoltaic systems. “With our funding program, we want to support the market launch of such systems,” said Managing Director Bernd Vogl. If more such systems were used, the technology would become more cost-effective.
Imitators wanted
“Since 2021, numerous model and lighthouse projects in photovoltaics have been implemented with this funding program,” Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) was quoted as saying. “They show how innovatively and creatively this technology can be used in projects – and have thus found numerous imitators. This has made a significant contribution to the market penetration of innovative energy systems.”
Larger systems are supported: 10 kWp to 5 MWp
Specifically, investments in the planning and construction of “innovative” PV systems (10 kWp to 5 MWp) are supported. These are newly installed systems that have “particularly innovative components or system or integration concepts”. Electricity storage systems can be part of the project and can also be funded. “These systems are to be implemented as lighthouse projects and encourage other investors, project developers and regions to imitate them and implement concrete projects,” explains the Climate and Energy Fund.
Submissions are possible here. Particularly innovative projects that are suitable for accompanying research from a scientific point of view will be selected by the jury and will receive a special innovation bonus of 5 or 10 percent.
