Uruguay took new steps to achieve Halal certification from Indonesia

The MGAP delegation continues its busy agenda in Southeast Asia after holding several meetings with authorities and businessmen.

The official mission of Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) which is running through part of the Southeast Asian gave new ones to reach the Halal certification by Indonesia in some products, after holding several meetings with both authorities and businessmen in that country.

Last Monday, the Minister Fernando Mattoswho heads the Uruguayan delegation, and the president of the National Meat Institute (INAC), Conrad Ferberheld a meeting with the Head of the Halal Products Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), Muhammad Aqil Irham.

According to the MGAP, Uruguay agreed with the Asian country on “the next steps to take” with the aim of obtaining Halal certification, which is an essential requirement to access that market, which has an abundant and mostly Muslim population.

At a global level, Muslims require that their food, medicines and cosmetics, among other products, have this certification, which meets the precepts regarding hygiene and health, and functions as an export passport and a guarantee seal for the faithful.

After the meeting with Aqil Irham, Mattos held a meeting with representatives of the National Food Agency of Indonesia, where views were exchanged on food safety policies in Indonesia and the possibilities of joint cooperation.

Later, the minister and the representatives of INAC and the Chamber of the Dairy Industry of Uruguay (CILU) presented at a strategic event organized between the Embassy of Uruguay in Indonesia and the Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Kadin).

Uruguay signed a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural matters

This Tuesday, Mattos visited the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Harvick Hasnul Qolbi with whom he signed a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural matters, to continue strengthening ties of cooperation between both countries.

After this, the head of the MGAP met with his counterpart from Agrarian Affairs and Planning, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyonowith whom they exchanged about the potential to increase trade and bilateral exchange.

On June 5, the mission will depart for Malaysia to meet with the authorities of this country, including Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, in a search to obtain authorizations for the entry of beef and sheep into that market. The return to Uruguay It will take place on June 7.
