Sobotka’s resignation: Kogler praised fight against anti-Semitism

At the beginning of May, Sobotka publicly painted over anti-Semitic slogans in Vienna.

The President of the National Council, who will not run in the National Council elections in the autumn and is no longer seeking political office, has credibly fought against anti-Semitism, stressed Kogler, who had previously had more critical words for Sobotka. After the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Nehammer did not comment specifically on his future in the ÖVP.

That is yet to be decided. Nehammer stressed that the President of the National Council had made a free decision. He had always been an important supporter within the ÖVP and was always available to give him advice.

Kogler also had words of praise. In the past, he had already suggested that the President of the National Council should resign in connection with allegations made by the late former section head Christian Pilnacek, saying “if we were in his position, we would have cleared the way”. He now praised Sobotka’s fight for democracy and against right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism in particular, which he had conducted in a “very credible manner”. He also praised the personal discussions he had had with him.
