The municipality of Altmünster is significantly expanding its photovoltaic capacities

The market town of Altmünster has significantly expanded its portfolio of photovoltaic systems: four more PV systems have been added to the existing ones. They are located on the roofs of the waste collection center, the Reindlmühl kindergarten, the Altmünster middle school and the Neukirchen elementary school.

The latter is the most powerful system with a maximum output of 230 kilowatts. It is also combined with a 50 kilowatt hour power storage unit and has an emergency power function.

All of the municipality’s photovoltaic systems together generate around 400,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. This corresponds to the consumption of more than 130 households and covers a third of the municipality’s electricity consumption. This saves Altmünster around 100,000 euros in electricity costs per year.

The market town participates in the Renewable Energy Community (EEG) with Gschwandt, Scharnstein, St. Konrad and Traunkirchen and feeds a large proportion of solar power into it. The EEG is also open to private households. EEG participants can feed in green electricity they generate themselves at slightly higher prices than usual. Conversely, electricity can be purchased at a slightly lower price. This is made possible by a lower network fee for local energy communities.
