The PIT-CNT announced legal actions after incidents with the fishing union

He PIT-CNT published a statement following the acts of repression by the security forces in the vicinity of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS); meanwhile, since Single Union of Sea and Related Workers (Suntma) denounced “constant cruelty” on the part of the police to continue repressing the workers.

In a statement, the union center, chaired by Marcelo Abdala, stated that it “rejects and condemns” the acts of repression that occurred yesterday. Expressing their solidarity with the injured workers and in support of the fight for the wages that were being demanded, they announced that they had initiated the corresponding legal actions.

“From our PIT-CNT “We are already initiating the pertinent legal actions to denounce these serious events and to quickly investigate the incident and identify and severely punish those responsible for the violence against our colleagues,” the letter states.

Meanwhile, they also demanded “an immediate response” from the government and that it assume the political responsibility that corresponds to it in the face of “this situation of unjustified, disproportionate repression and completely lacking professionalism on the part of the public force.”

The union version

For its part, since Suntma They assured that the security forces went directly to repress the workers. “They came directly to repress,” said the president of Suntma, Alexis Pintos to Channel 5.

The leader was inside the ministry when he was informed of the police actions, so he went out to try to “appease and resolve.” However, he assured that there was “a constant desire to continue repressing” on the part of the security forces.

The incidents

The headquarters of Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) in Ciudad Vieja witnessed moments of high tension yesterday between the Suntma and the Policewhile the tripartite negotiation between the government, companies and the Maritime Inter-Union of Uruguay.

The conflict broke out after the police ordered the Suntma workers to free the road within 5 minutes, this order being rejected by the fishing boats and triggering the confrontation that left some injured by rubber bullets.

From the Ministry of Interiorassured that some of the protesters who were on Juancal Street reacted “violently” against the police officers, so at 11:30 a.m. a shock team had to intervene to “free up half the road.”

“In some cases, less than lethal ammunition had to be used to disperse said protesters, which caused damage to two police vehicles and a 23-year-old police officer suffered an injury to one of his arms,” ​​they explained from the Interior.
