Best Supporting Actor: Maria Hofstätter honored at the Film Awards

“Maria Hofstätter is a stroke of luck as an actress,” said director Veronika Franz. “She never thinks about whether a role is big or small, she always thinks about the whole film.” The actress from Gramastetten was awarded the Austrian Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress on Wednesday evening in Vienna City Hall. She played the mother-in-law of the main character in Veronika Franz and co-director Severin Fiala’s film “Des Teufels Bad”. “Without you, the film would never have turned out the way it did,” said Franz. Hofstätter herself was unable to attend the gala due to filming.

Franz and Fiala had seven more reasons to celebrate: their film was the winner of the evening, winning a total of eight awards, including best feature film. Lead actress Anja Plaschg was not only awarded best actress (as already reported in parts of the OÖNachrichten), but also for the film’s music, which was written by the musician (Soap&Skin). Also honored were Linz-born Michael Palm for best editing and cameraman Martin Gschlacht, who had already received the Silver Bear at the Berlinale.

“Rickerl” won four awards: best director and best screenplay for Adrian Goiginger, best male lead for Voodoo Jürgens and best casting (Angelika Kropej). The 600 members of the Austrian Film Academy chose “The Invisible Border” by Mark Gerstorfer, who was born in Hallein and grew up in Burghausen, as the best short film. The film made it onto the shortlist of the best 15 short films at the Oscars.

Honor for Josef Hader

The award for the film with the most audience went to a native of Upper Austria: Josef Hader from Waldhausen for the comedy “Andrea lets herself get divorced”, which attracted 174,000 guests to the cinema.
