Ukraine has banned the import of five children’s books from Russia

Ukraine has banned the import of five children’s books from Russia due to their content. This was announced on Wednesday, December 29, at the press service of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine.

The department noted that the importer was refused, including because of the propaganda of the “aggressor state” in them. So, in the books “High Technologies: From Fantasy to Reality”, “Modern Professions”, “Famous Animals” there are images of law enforcement officers, military personnel and military equipment of Russia.

Also banned was the book “365 fairy tales and poems for every day.” The work contains a poem about the Russian army and Empress Catherine II, where, among her merits, “the seizure of foreign territories” is indicated.

The State TV and Radio Committee noted that in 2021 they received almost 7.2 thousand applications for permission to import publishing products from the Russian Federation for consideration. An import permit was issued for 6442 works. In addition, the State TV and Radio Committee issued an order that canceled 2,226 permits for the import of publishing products from the territory of the Russian Federation.

In 2016, Petro Poroshenko, who was then the President of Ukraine, signed a law restricting access to the Ukrainian market for printed products of “anti-Ukrainian content” from the Russian Federation. Now for the import of printed materials to Ukraine, the approval of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting is required.

In Ukraine, since 2019, when the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language” came into force, a fight has been waged against the Russian language. The law presupposes a total Ukrainization of state administration, the service sector, health care and other spheres of public and private life.

In addition, from January 16, 2021 in Ukraine, employees of supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, sports clubs, hairdressers and other service establishments were obliged to serve visitors only in Ukrainian. As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, the Russian language is not the property of the Russian Federation. At the same time, he recalled that the issue of the state language in the country is legally regulated, it is Ukrainian.
