Done! On today’s last match day in the regional football league, all of the Upper Austrian teams threatened with relegation were able to celebrate staying in the league: The Young Vikings (5:1 against Allerheiligen), Vöcklamarkt (3:0 against Deutschlandsberg) and Vorwärts Steyr (0:0 against Weiz) will also play in the third highest league next season – the WAC amateurs have to be relegated as third from last alongside Bad Gleichenberg and Allerheiligen due to their 0:4 defeat against Gurten.
The fact that no third-league team in Upper Austria has to go down has also had positive effects on the Upper Austrian league: SPG Pregarten, third from bottom in the state’s highest league, is now safely saved. Only the 1b team SPG Wels is definitely relegated, and the second-to-last ASK St. Valentin will fight to stay in the league in two relegation matches against the East Regional League runner-up Donau Linz in the extended season.
David Berger used the Upper Austrian League as a springboard: The 19-year-old is moving from St. Martin to second division club SV Ried. He said goodbye yesterday with a goal in the 5:1 win against Mondsee.
