On Friday morning, the Danube was reopened to shipping after the flooding last weekend and at the start of the week; the slowly falling water levels had made it possible. However, only for a few hours: In the afternoon, the hatches had to be closed again – the OÖNachrichten reported.

Although water levels were again predicted to rise slightly, no one expected it to happen so quickly. The Hydrographic Service predicted yesterday that the all-clear could be given for today, Saturday. And the water levels did indeed fall accordingly. The warning limits were again exceeded on Saturday morning, and the water levels on the Danube are falling, albeit slowly and still at a high level, according to the state’s Hydrographic Service in a press release.
But the tense situation is not over: the weather will remain unstable over the weekend. Heavy rainfall is again forecast, but will probably be limited to local areas. According to current forecasts, the Inn and Danube may rise again, especially during the night from Sunday to Monday and on Monday. However, smaller bodies of water are more likely to be affected by the forecast rainfall.
