A serious accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the municipality of Kefermarkt (Freistadt district): a 10-year-old local boy was hit by a regional train heading towards Pregarten at a railway crossing. The boy had been riding his bike on the L1474 at around 1:25 p.m. and probably did not notice the approaching train. Despite the red light, he drove into the crossing and collided sideways with the second carriage.
The force of the impact threw the child off his bike and he remained lying in a meadow about ten metres away. A cyclist following behind and two other witnesses to the accident rushed to help and called the emergency services. The 10-year-old was taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz, police said in the afternoon. It was not yet known how serious his injuries were.
