Employees of Aasfinag and the fire brigade were “working around the clock to remove the earth masses with the help of seven excavators”. However, until Sunday morning, more and more earth and, above all, water continued to flow from the unstable slopes. Geologists and bridge experts from Asfinag have been checking the slopes and infrastructure since Sunday morning. An assessment of whether and what damage this natural event caused to the motorway will be available “on Sunday evening at the earliest”.

“Before the road is opened to traffic, any risk to road users must be eliminated, and the drainage systems and guard rails covered in mud must also be renovated and repaired beforehand. Traffic will therefore be diverted in both directions from St. Michael and Deutschfeistritz via the S6 Semmering expressway and the S35 Brucker expressway until further notice,” said Asfinag.
