Manini Ríos asked the government for firmness in matters of public security

The senator and presidential candidate for Cabildo Abierto (CA), Guido Manini Ríosasked for “firmness” on the part of the Executive power in matters of public security and suggested that the path adopted by the government “is not the solution” to this social problem.

Last Saturday, the lobbyist leader stated at a press conference that the country could experience “significant changes” in a short period of time, as long as the decision is made to “grab the bull by the hook.”

“In a few months there can be significant, substantial changes, provided things are done with the necessary firmness, as we say: provided we grab the bull by the hook once and for all,” commented Manini Ríos.

In that sense, he understands that not only should work be done at the level of National Policebut we also have to “address different directions”, such as carrying out an anti-drug policy and addressing the prison problems that the Uruguay.

Likewise, he highlighted the “social policy” character of the fight against unsafetysince this mainly affects “the most fragile”, since these “cannot afford private security” or “bars and alarms” and are “those who depend on the effectiveness, efficiency, effectiveness of the competent authorities in the matter”.

“Uruguayans may have better numbers today in terms of crimes, but the numbers are not acceptable. We deserve to live in other conditions, much better,” he said in reference to the recent sayings of the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, who expressed that the number of crimes decreased, but that his government “has not been able” to deal with the homicides.

“Taking out the military to fight crime is inappropriate”

Days ago, Manini Ríos assured that the proposal to remove the military to the streets to help the Police in security tasks carried out by the senator and presidential candidate of the National Party (PN), Jorge Gandiniis “inappropriate.”

“The Armed Forces (FFAA) They have preparation, they have a constitutional and legal mandate, and they have their weapons and their way of operating, that cannot be lost sight of,” he continued.

“It is important that those who speak in this sense assume all the responsibility that must be assumed for this,” he pointed out in reference to the nationalist legislator.
