An Austrian Airlines (AUA) plane was damaged by hail while approaching Vienna Airport in Schwechat on Sunday evening. The plane nevertheless landed safely at Vienna Airport and all passengers were uninjured.
Flight from Mallorca to Vienna
Specifically affected was flight OS434 from Palma de Mallorca to Vienna. According to initial findings, the two front cockpit windows, the nose of the aircraft (radome) “and some panels” were damaged on the Airbus A320, according to AUA. Due to the incident, the emergency call “Mayday” was initially sent. The safe landing was finally achieved at 5:55 p.m.
It was not yet clear how badly the aircraft had actually been damaged. “The Austrian Airlines technical team has already been tasked with assessing the specific damage to the aircraft in question,” it was stressed.
