One dead in explosion at Polish arms factory

The dead man was a 59-year-old worker, a police spokesman told the news channel TVN24 on Monday. According to initial findings, the fire broke out in one of the warehouses of the Mesko armaments company in Skarzysko-Kamienna. The factory fire brigade has now extinguished the flames. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated.

According to the news portal “Onet.pl”, the director of the factory, Elzbieta Sreniawska, said there had been an explosion in the rocket fuel center, which had only been opened a few years ago. One person was killed and another injured.

According to media reports, a rescue helicopter was on its way to the scene of the accident. Skarzysko-Kamienna is located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, around 125 kilometers south of Warsaw. Mesko manufactures anti-tank guided missiles and shoulder-launched short-range anti-aircraft missile systems, among other things.
