The Foreign Ministers of Germany, France, Great Britain and the US Secretary of State jointly discussed the situation on the border with Ukraine and the formats of dialogue with the Russian Federation. This was announced on Wednesday, December 29, in the official Twitter-account of the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany.
“Foreign Secretary [ФРГ Анналена] Tonight Berbock discussed with her colleagues … the situation near the border of Ukraine and the upcoming formats of dialogue with Russia, ”the statement says.
It is noted that the parties also expressed “solidarity with Lithuania in the light of the actions of China, Iran and the JCPOA.”
Earlier, on December 28, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, during a telephone conversation with British Foreign Minister Liz Truss, said that any discussion of European security issues cannot be held without the participation of the European Union.
On the same day, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Washington, together with its European allies, was ready to discuss Russia’s security proposals, but some of them would be unacceptable to the US and Europe.
Russian-American talks on strategic stability and security issues will take place on January 10. Thereafter, on November 12, the issue of European security and the situation in Ukraine will be discussed at a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council and on January 13 with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. It follows from the documents that the alliance should refuse to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
