»Bäderzug« takes guests from Vienna via the Westbahn to Lake Attersee

The public transport offering in the Vöcklabruck district was greatly expanded when the timetable was changed in December. This not only affected the timetable on the Atterseebahn. The bus timetable between the Attersee and the Vöcklabruck area was also noticeably extended.

But now comes the icing on the cake: for the first time this summer, a “Bäderzug” will bring day-trippers from Vienna to Lake Attersee. This is made possible by the cooperation of the two transport companies Westbahn and Stern & Hafferl.

From July, the bathing train will depart Vienna every Saturday and Sunday at 7:38 a.m. and make stops in St. Pölten, Amstetten, Linz, Wels, Attnang-Puchheim and Vöcklabruck. At 9:37 a.m. it stops in Vöcklamarkt, where a local train from Stern & Hafferl is already waiting and takes bathers to Attersee on Lake Attersee (arrival at 10 a.m.). There are three public bathing areas and the lido within walking distance. The other shore communities can also be reached by public bus or the Attersee boat trip. In the evening, the train leaves Attersee in the opposite direction at 6:58 p.m. and after a change in Vöcklamarkt, the Westbahn returns to Vienna’s Westbahnhof station 150 minutes later.

Angelina Eggl, tourism director at Attersee, is naturally delighted about the new offer. “It strengthens sustainable travel tourism in our region,” she says. Attersee’s mayor Rudi Hemetsberger, meanwhile, stresses that the people of Attergau will also benefit from the Westbahn’s first train stop in Vöcklamarkt. “This will create an attractive and convenient weekend connection to Vienna for the people in our region,” he says. “Especially when you consider that it is often difficult to find empty parking spaces at the Vöcklabruck or Attnang-Puchheim train stations.”

Günther Steinkellner (FPÖ), the regional councillor for infrastructure, also welcomes the connection. “If transport companies, tourism and communities pull together, great mobility opportunities can arise,” says Steinkellner.
