Innviertel remains a region of extreme results in the EU elections

The vote for the EU election in the Innviertel on Sunday was once again “blue”: the FP received 34.16 percent in the region on Sunday – thus the Freedom Party performed well above its national average and also above its state average (28.19 percent).

In terms of results, the FP leads in the Innviertel constituency with 34.16 percent, ahead of the VP (30.12 percent), the SP (16.64 percent), the Greens (7.64 percent), the Neos (6.77 percent), DNA (2.62 percent) and the KPÖ (2.05 percent).

In this election, too, the FP received a particularly high share of the vote in Innviertel communities, with 15 municipalities in the FP’s “Top 20” in Upper Austria: FP’s first place among all 438 communities in the state goes to St. Georgen am Fillmannsbach with 56.46; in Auerbach, Enzenkirchen, Moosbach, Höhnhart, Mettmach, Polling, Feldkirchen, St. Roman, Treubach, Roßbach, Pischelsdorf, Kopfing, Obernberg and Gilgenberg, the FP managed between 40 and 50 percent in the ballot box on Sunday. “Whenever the FPÖ does well nationwide, we go one better in the Innviertel,” said David Schießl, a delighted FP state parliamentarian and Braunau district spokesman. The FPÖ did particularly well in the Braunau district. “The people have sent a signal that things cannot continue as they have been,” emphasised Schießl, referring, among other things, to the weak economy.

St. Georgen best VP community

With 16.22, the FP achieved its worst result in the Innviertel in St. Radegund – conversely, the VP achieved its third-best result nationwide there with 48.31 percent. St. Georgen bei Obernberg proved to be the best VP municipality nationwide in the ballot with 53.95 percent. And with Mayrhof, Peterskirchen, Dorf an der Pram and Freinberg, the VP finds other Innviertel municipalities in its top 20 in the state.

In view of losses of around eleven percentage points compared to the previous EU election, Günther Lengauer, VP district party chairman in Ried and state parliament member from Utzenaich, is “not entirely satisfied” overall. He says that they have not succeeded in mobilizing their own people sufficiently. “We have emphasized the importance of this election at every opportunity. In the end, it was a mobilization issue, even if we are above the national average in the Innviertel. We will look at the results in detail. It shows that the FP has become even stronger in communities where it was already strong.”

Innviertel districts

The region remains a difficult place for the SP: 12 Innviertel municipalities are on the SP’s list of the 20 “worst” municipalities nationwide – with 3.35 percent, Mayrhof takes first place as a “flop” from the SP’s perspective, followed by St. Georgen am Fillmannsbach, St. Roman and St. Georgen bei Obernberg. St. Radegund, Peterskirchen, Weilbach, Auerbach, Gilgenberg, Treubach, Vichtenstein and Moosbach are also disappointing from the SP’s perspective – all of these municipalities appear on the SP’s nationwide “negative” list.

The Greens also have a tough time in the Innviertel. Only Mörschwang makes it into the Greens’ top 20 nationwide with 13.56 percent, while six Innviertel communities are in the “negative 20”: Waldkirchen, Polling, Vichtenstein, Antiesenhofen, Geiersberg and Treubach – with values ​​between 2.62 and 3.57 percent.

The Neos’ nationwide top 20 list has to do without the Innviertel, while eight municipalities in the region appear on the “flop” 20 list: St. Aegidi, followed by Auerbach, St. Johann, Andrichsfurt, St. Georgen am Fillmannsbach, Weilbach, Rainbach and Kirchdorf.

Even in the DNA list, the Innviertel turns out to be a region of extremes: DNA finds eleven of its 20 worst communities nationwide in the region. The KPÖ is also doing very poorly in the Innviertel, although five Innviertel communities – St. Pantaleon, Ostermiething, Haigermoos, Kirchberg and even the town of Braunau – appear in the top 20 communists – in the town of Braunau, the KPÖ managed 3.45 percent.
