What graduates earn on average today

What do graduates of the individual training courses earn after they graduate? And what does it take for companies to be attractive to employees? To find answers to these questions, the ÖPWZ (Austrian Productivity and Efficiency Center) association conducted a survey among its members and presented the results yesterday in Vienna.

Gross monthly salaries range between 2,592 and 2,705 euros for vocational school graduates and 3,600 to 3,968 euros for graduates of a technical degree at master’s level at a university. “We have never seen such a big jump in starting salaries as this year,” says ÖPWZ managing director Armand Kaali-Nagy: The increase was between 13 and 20 percent. The survey is carried out every two years.

For graduates of a business degree at a university or technical college, there is no longer any difference in pay with a bachelor’s degree. The situation is different for technical training: a university degree is valued at an average of 50 euros more, and in terms of salary development over three to five years, university graduates are clearly ahead.

In order to attract employees, salary is no longer the only decisive factor; a bundle of offers and benefits is needed, such as flexibility in terms of working hours and location. Almost all companies offer health measures in some form. Job tickets and e-mobility are becoming increasingly important.
