Four fire brigades were deployed on Bahnhofstrasse in Ebensee on Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out in the kitchen of the Auerhahn inn. According to the police, passers-by noticed the heavy smoke and called the emergency services. There were no guests in the establishment, which only opens for events and by reservation for larger groups, the landlady said in an interview with the OÖN. The innkeepers had cooked for themselves that afternoon.

At around 3:15 p.m., a moment of carelessness with serious consequences occurred, as the police reported: The 60-year-old, who had been working in the kitchen, left the room for a short moment. In the meantime, hot fat caught fire and the flames spread to the extractor hood. The 60-year-old tried to use a fire extinguisher to prevent the flames from spreading to the roof structure.
