The Senate Chamber unanimously approved the accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)a bill that was sent in July of last year by the Executive power and that is a key aspect to enter the Trans-Pacific Economic Cooperation Agreement.

The minister of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), Elisa Facioexplained through his X account (formerly Twitter) that “the accession of Uruguay PCT is a reflection of our country’s commitment to innovation and technological development”, in addition to being “a fundamental milestone to give more opportunities to our inventors and boost the knowledge economy”.

For his part, the minister of Foreign Relations (MRREE), Omar Paganininoted in X that accession to the PCT is “a key milestone for the Uruguay innovative”, as well as “for our international insertion strategy”. Through the same social network, the director of the National Directorate of Industrial Property, Santiago Martinezcelebrated the approval of the Senate: “Uruguay It’s PCT.”
