It is the fifth time that Van der Bellen has had a visit from the carol singers. A year ago, however, the visit had to take place outdoors because of the pandemic. This year, however, the “Holy Three Kings” from the parish of Neudorf (Neusiedl am See district) were also allowed to enter the Hofburg, FFP2 masks of course had to be worn.
The head of state praised the efforts of the children and young people in the three kings action. “It is extremely important that the campaign can take place this year despite the pandemic,” said Van der Bellen in a broadcast. Most of the donations this year will benefit indigenous peoples in the Amazon region. Since Neudorf in Burgenland is a predominantly Croatian-speaking community, the blessing followed bilingual – in German and Croatian.
