The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are investing around 6.1 billion euros in the expansion and modernization of train services across Austria by 2030. A large part of the money will be used to buy new trains: 1.6 billion euros will go into long-distance transport, 3.7 billion into local transport. “These will arrive in about four years,” says Sabine Stock, CEO of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG. It is not yet possible to say how many of them will be on the rails in Upper Austria. Many trains are used in different federal states.

What is already visible is that older trains that are still operational are being modernized and converted with 0.8 billion euros. One of the 40 renovated trains was christened at Linz Central Station on Thursday.
