Amazon joins Vrio to compete with Starlink in Uruguay

The companies signed an agreement to offer broadband satellite internet in the face of the advance of Elon Musk’s company.

amazon and the telecommunications company Vrio Corporation signed an agreement to offer satellite internet through the constellation of low Earth orbit satellites Project Kuiper in Uruguay and six other countries South America.

With this agreement, Vrio will be able to provide broadband internet from Project Kuiper, an Amazon initiative, to customers in Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chili, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia through DirecTV Latin America and Sky Brazil.

The operation will expand competition in a sector in which it already operates starlinkof Elon Musk, among other companies.

“We think the opportunity is enormous,” he said.
