Gregor Luckeneder is delighted. He has been commuting from Gramastetten to Linz by car for 23 years, mostly via Pachmayrstrasse, which is in dire need of repair. Just last April, a broken curb slashed two of his tires.
More on the subject: “Very bad condition”: Pachmayrstraße to be renovated
The Grammastettner is by no means the only one who has complained about the condition of the road in recent years. But that will soon be over: The Linz City Council today decided to award the planning services for the renovation of the road over a length of around two kilometers (maximum 100,000 euros, including construction supervision). In addition to the renovation of the existing road, a slight widening of the roadway including two passing places is also planned from the Imkerhof onwards. This will prevent the shoulders from being damaged by vehicles swerving in the future and will reduce the resulting need for repairs to a minimum.
VP: “Renovation with a sense of proportion”
The decision to go ahead with this project was made based on several previous on-site inspections and complaints from residents, says traffic officer Vice Mayor Martin Hajart (VP), who thanks everyone for the unanimous decision. “Planning and renovation should be done with a sense of proportion and not a thoroughfare should be created that attracts more traffic.”
SPÖ: “No more traffic”
This is also important to the SPÖ. “We have now agreed because it has been made clear that only a small widening will be carried out to the extent required by law, only two passing routes with the greatest possible protection of the trees,” says Planning Councillor Dietmar Prammer (SP). It has also been assured that there will be no additional traffic in order not to place further strain on Gründberg and Leonfeldner Strasse.
Luckeneder is pleased: “I speak for many drivers who use this route every day, it’s good that something is finally happening.”
