Paraglider got stuck in treetop after failed takeoff

A 69-year-old from the Steyr-Land district took off with his paraglider at around 3 p.m. from the Sonnberg launch site in Steinbach am Ziehberg. For unknown reasons, the paraglider pilot, who has around 35 years of flying experience, glided into a group of trees below the launch site immediately after takeoff and got caught in a treetop with his paraglider.

He says he was not injured and was able to find a safe footing in a fork in the tree. He then called the fire department himself. The fire department’s high-altitude rescuers were able to free the injured man from his predicament. The 69-year-old was treated by the rescue team after being rescued and then went to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Clinic in Kirchdorf on his own.
