“The fire is under control, fortunately it ended relatively well,” said fire chief Jakob Pumberger late Thursday afternoon. A total of 180 firefighters were dispatched to the fire in a barn building of a fattening bull farm between 3 and 4 p.m. 60 bulls and some calves were still in the building when the emergency services arrived.
“The biggest challenge was obtaining the extinguishing water. We drew water from the local water network in Niederkappel, so we had to lay 850 meters of hose. The stream from which we fed the fire is also 600 meters away. We therefore decided relatively quickly to raise the alarm level from two to three,” says Pumberger.
With the help of all emergency services, all animals – around 70 cattle – were rescued unharmed. They were also able to return home without the fire lights flashing. Fire investigators have been on the scene since Thursday evening.
Location: Niederkappel in the Rohrbach district
