RIED. With the match between Germany and Scotland, not only the European Football Championship starts today, but also the summer program of the city of Ried. During the summer months, the district capital is attracting visitors with a total of 54 events. “Here in Ried, variety and quality are very important. Visitors can look forward to a wide range of events,” says Helmut Slezak, managing director of city marketing. Ried’s mayor Bernhard Zwielehner is happy that the municipality can present a varied summer program despite some challenges. “I am sure that all guests will get their money’s worth,” says Zwielehner.
Summer festival at the main square
The biggest event is the summer festival, which will take place for the first time on the main square in Ried from Wednesday 14th to Saturday 17th August. Admission is free and there is a varied supporting programme over the four days. Among other things, there will be a concert by the band Ostwärts – The Kurt Ostbahn Tribute Band on Wednesday at 8.30 p.m. On Thursday, the film Bohemian Rhapsody (a documentary about the rock band Queen) will be shown on a 32 square metre screen. On Friday at 6 p.m. there will be the Ried Sports Awards, followed by an Italian night.
The summer festival will end on Saturday with the Harley Davidson Charity Tour and a concert by the Charity Tour Live Band. After the successful Moonlight opening event at the Roßmarkt, this year’s event will take place on Thursday, June 20th in Rainerstrasse. The street from the Irish Viking Pub to the Auswärts bar will be closed to traffic and turned into a pedestrian zone. The participating restaurateurs will expand their beer gardens and provide visitors with everything they need for a relaxed summer evening. There will also be live music for the first time. The Ried band Birdland will be playing. There will also be a DJ. “Moonlight is one of my favorite events. The focus is on conviviality and togetherness,” says Slezak,
A special musical highlight is the gala concert of the Lions Club Ried in the Jahnturnhalle on Sunday, June 23rd. The musicians of the Sinfonietta Linz festival will play under the direction of Lui Chan, the concertmaster of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. The summer concert of the Symphonic Wind Orchestra Ried (SBO) with the OÖ Dance Academy will also take place in the Jahnturhalle. The event will take place on Saturday, July 13th. Every Thursday in August will be dedicated to wind music. The concert series “Wind Music Meets City” will include performances by the Ried Town Band, the Tumeltsham Music Band and the St. Marienkirchen am Hausruck Local Band.
On Saturday, August 31st, Ried offers a great program for athletes, connoisseurs and music lovers. The gourmet market focuses on local food and regional crafts. The city run invites young and old to run laps in Ried. In the evening, the Glenn Miller anniversary concert will take place in the OÖV hall. Dirndl meets Lederhosen is the motto from September 11th to 15th, when the Ried Oktoberfest takes place on the festival grounds. Table reservations are now possible. The summer program will end on Sunday, September 29th, with the concert “Aus allen Rohren…”, delicious rarities with four bassoon instruments in the Salesianersaal of the State Music School.
