The Central Office for Organized Crime at the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor’s Office announced this on Friday. The huge quantity of drugs was discovered last year. Seven arrest warrants have now been executed. According to the Ministry of Justice in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the amount in question is 35 tons of cocaine.
The authorities plan to provide further details at a press conference on Monday.
Record amounts of cocaine have been seized in the port of Hamburg in recent years. A particularly spectacular find was made in February 2021: customs investigators discovered more than 16 tons of drugs in five containers from Paraguay in one fell swoop. By comparison, the total amount of cocaine seized by German authorities in 2019 was a good ten tons.
