The first call from the perpetrators came at the beginning of February. They promised the man huge amounts of profit if he made a “small initial investment” of a few hundred euros. In the months that followed, the man was tricked into thinking he was actively trading the cryptocurrency Ethereum. And this was evidently clever, because the 57-year-old transferred a total of around 150,000 euros to the fraudsters.
