Just take it easy. Nina Ennikl learned that last year. “In 2021 it didn’t feel like the pandemic would be over anyhow. You got into a routine and were able to reflect. I quickly realized that a lot of the stress I was putting on myself wasn’t actually necessary at all “, said the young woman yesterday in a street survey by the OÖN in downtown Linz. “In the lockdown we were forced to stop a lot of activities. I just didn’t miss a lot.”
The fact that we often put more pressure on ourselves in everyday life than is necessary is just one of many lessons we can learn from the past year. The OÖN asked five Upper Austrians from different areas what they had learned from the positive and negative experiences of the past year. The answers are varied.
Gain confidence in yourself
“We all experienced our first pandemic with Corona, we did not know the disease and have never been in such a situation. I was very impressed by how quickly we all adapted and developed strategies. In the hospital we learned in a few months to keep up with the ups and downs of the waves of infection and to take the right steps. That has strengthened my trust in my colleagues, in myself and in human adaptability in general. ”- Elisabeth Bräutigam, Medical Director at the Ordensklinikum Linz

Appreciate interpersonal relationships more
“For me, especially nice experiences were meetings of all kinds – be it at church services or at a joint dinner. Sometimes it just feels good to just nod your head. I have found a new appreciation for this interpersonal contact and for resilient relationships. If your nerves are on edge, it would sometimes be very tempting to just work on your own. But now we’re noticing again how important contact with others is. ”- Christoph Nobody, Rector of the KU Linz

Seize opportunities
“Due to the conditions, I internalized the” Carpe diem “idea this year. That may have something to do with my age, I can look back on many successes and new things come to me. Young people with a lot of dreams suffer more. I’ve learned to take advantage of opportunities that arise spontaneously. I am thinking primarily of our CD recordings in spring: We decided to do it at short notice, and the joy of seeing each other and making music together were terrific. ”- Michi Gaigg, director
L??Orfeo Barockorchester

See the good in people
“I am amazed at how quickly time flies. We have been in a state of emergency for two years, if you can even call it that. Unfortunately, the pandemic has made many structural problems even more obvious, such as discrimination against people with disabilities. All the more impressive for me was the incredible commitment of the nursing staff in the hospitals, who have done us all a great service. That shows again the good that people are capable of. “- Gunther Trübswasser,
Human rights activist

Focus on the positive
“I opened my café in October last year and had to close after a day. Then I knew: if I don’t do anything now, I won’t be able to keep it up. So I thought about new concepts, made take-away and kept adapting to the new situation. In this way I have learned to remain flexible and to see these constantly new tasks as challenges. It was an exhausting first year, but also an incredibly instructive one. ”- Kristina Lang, founder of the Lenzing Village Salon
