After the cancellation in 2021, Welscup chairman Reinhard Lauterbach and his helpers look to another season full of uncertainty: “We will start on January 8th in Hinterstoder with a children and youth race. We have canceled the adult races because the number of participants has been reduced to 25” , explains the Welscup boss. Six dates are on the calendar from January 8th to March 20th. But only incorrigible optimists assume that the program can take place as planned. Lauterbach remains a realist: “Should there be a fifth lockdown in January, this season would have been more or less over. With a lot of luck, only the two fun runs on March 19 and 20 will end.”
Close the catering in Hinterstoder, the Welscup is no longer feasible, says Lauterbach: “We cannot expect the children in particular to be outdoors all day. They have to strengthen themselves and warm up somewhere. Our entourage can number up to 250 people. According to the racing official, the Covid-19 pandemic is not only endangering the health of every individual.
