He National Party (PN) celebrated the 40th anniversary of the return to the country of Wilson Ferreira Aldunate after his exile during the dictatorshipin an event in front of the Port of Montevideo which brought together the five nationalist presidential candidates who jointly paid tribute to the white leader.
This Sunday, the five PN pre-candidates, Alvaro Delgado, Carlos Iafigliola, Jorge Gandini, Laura Raffo and Roxana Corbranthey remembered the figure of Ferreira and his political significance at the national level.
When speaking, Senator Gandini “broke” the protocol provided for in the event and invited all the pre-candidates to go up on stage to take a unity photo. “You are waiting for us to all be together, I want to ask Laura, Roxana, Álvaro and Carlitos that we all be here together. One by one we are nothing, together we are victory,” said the presidential candidate in front of the militants.
The president of the PN Board of Directors, Macarena Rubiosaid that “to talk about Wilson is to talk about service” and “generosity”, as well as “putting the common good and the interest of the country above personal interests.”
“The pluralism of our party is what makes us stronger”
After finishing the event, Raffo highlighted in a press conference that, from the first moment, all the pre-candidates were willing to attend the tribute to Ferreira. “I emphasize that in addition to unity, it is the diversity and pluralism of our party that makes us stronger,” he added.
For his part, Gandini recalled that Ferreira was “a fighter.” “It is incredible how white people are able to celebrate what for others are defeats, and that allows us to be proudly white. This is our landmark on the path to freedom,” he emphasized.
Delgado echoed a message that Ferreira gave after being released from prison, that of “putting the country first.” “That differentiates us from the leadership of the Broad Front (FA)especially in the most difficult moments, betting on the country and lending a shoulder to the Uruguayregardless of whether it is your government,” he said.
The vice president of the Republic, Beatriz Argimondescribed Ferreira as a “always reference” and recalled that the politician “always gave space to young people and women.”
