Ternberg middle school students raised 18,500 euros for a good cause

150 children collected a considerable amount of donations.

“We sweat for a good cause” — this was the motto of the first fundraising run at Ternberg Middle School last week. Around 150 children ran and raised an impressive 18,500 euros in donations. “This is an impressive sign of solidarity and commitment,” says principal Rene Gumpinger.

Companies were able to donate for each lap run on a 250-meter circuit in the center of Ternberg (Steyr-Land district). Cheered on by 600 spectators, the young athletes covered more than 900 kilometers, or 3,600 full laps, in 45 minutes.

The children were able to decide for themselves how the donations would be divided up. The 18,500 euros will benefit, among others, a young woman suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS). “We are covering part of the 28,000 euro training costs for the required assistance dog,” says Gumpinger. The rest will be used for future sporting school events such as ski courses and sports weeks.

To round off the successful premiere, everyone came together at a school festival. “We now plan to hold a fundraising run every two years,” says Principal Gumpinger.
