End of the alliance of convenience: Netanyahu dissolves the Israeli war cabinet

Israel said its forces rescued four hostages alive from a Gaza refugee camp on June 8 as it intensified an assault despite scrutiny over a deadly strike on a UN-run school there. The four had been kidnapped by Hamas from the Nova music festival during the October 7 attacks that sparked the war, the army said. (Photo by JACK GUEZ / POOL / AFP) Image: JACK GUEZ (POOL)

Gantz and Netanyahu were at odds over the continuation of the Gaza war. The former defense minister was increasingly disappointed with Netanyahu’s war policy. He had accused Netanyahu of “hesitation and wasting time for political reasons.” At the beginning of June, he issued an ultimatum: Netanyahu should finally present a plan on how he could bring the fight against Hamas to an end and free the remaining hostages.
