The Political Table of the Broad Front (FA) met this Monday to determine whether it supports the partial strike imposed by the PIT-CNT to commemorate the 51 years of the strike carried out by workers against the dictatorship, immersed in the framework of a claim that also has union overtones.
The opposition met yesterday and is expected to define its position in the next few hours regarding the measure taken by the union center that occurs within the framework of the 51st anniversary of the 1973 general strike, carried out by the workers against the dictatorship.
In that sense, according to La Diaria, the Wide Front is waiting for the PIT-CNT define its platform of demands, the union center has already confirmed that the partial strike of activities is carried out with the objective of commemorating the union movement in rejection of the coup of June 27, 1973.
A tribute with labor and political demands
Among the demands of the labor union appears, in addition to labor-related complaints, the “rejection of illegal investigations against militants of the labor movement,” in reference to the scandal derived from the Astesian case for the alleged espionage of the president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala.
The unions assured that the strike will be “in tribute to the General Strike against the dictatorship”, but also to demand “for work and solutions to workers in conflict.”
In a statement, they also demonstrated “against the closure of companies, the precariousness of work and the loss of rights”, as well as “in defense of public freedoms and individual guarantees”.
When speaking at a press conference, the president of the PIT-CNT highlighted that “in homage to a general strike that the workers carried out in defense of the democracy, “The need to respect individual and collective rights will be raised in the mobilization.”
Among the main slogans of the march towards Plaza Huelga General, Abdullah mentioned the situation of the workers of the fishing industry, who do not work and are not covered by unemployment insurance, in the midst of the crisis in the sector that has been manifesting in recent times.
“And still having been victims of brutal, and truly unjustifiable from any point of view, persecution for a peaceful mobilization in defense of work,” Abdala noted.
Another sector to follow closely was the beverage sector, specifically in the midst of the problems with the workers at the Minas de Minas plant. National Beer Factories (FNC), a conflict in which the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), but remains unresolved.
