Four months later, the Chilean government decided to pay tribute to him by inviting several presidents of Latin Americaamong them, Luis Lacalle Pou, who confirmed that he will participate in the event.

Among the confirmed presidents are former presidents Mario Abdo (Paraguay), Ivan Duque (Colombia), Juan Guaidó (Venezuela), Guillermo Lasso (Ecuador), Mauricio Macri (Argentina), Jamil Mahuad (Ecuador), Andres Pastrana (Colombia) and Jorge Tuto Quiroga (Bolivia).

The event is called “Sebastián Piñera: Vision and legacy for Latin America” and will take place in the Magna classroom of the Universidad del Desarrollo in the commune of Las Condes, in the capital of Chile, Santiago.

There, they will review and reflect on the legacy of the former president, but they will also talk about current issues that affect the future of Latin America in a year marked by several elections in different countries in the region, including Uruguay.

A good relationship

Both leaders maintain a good relationship, despite ideological differences, Boric belongs to the left-wing party, Convergencia Social. Since the pandemic, the Andean country has helped Uruguay with the logistics to receive its first batch of Covid vaccines.

On the other hand, during 2023 at the presidents’ summit held by the Brazilian president, Lula Da Silva, Lacalle Pou and Boric stood up against the statements of the Brazilian leader, who defended Venezuela’s policy. Both leaders questioned the treatment of human rights in the Bolivarian country.
