Whether it’s a cell phone, tablet, laptop or e-bike: Electronic devices should not be exposed to direct sunlight. In very hot weather, the built-in batteries (usually lithium-ion batteries) can heat up, which can damage the longevity of the device and also lead to fires.
One advantage of lithium-ion batteries is their high energy density. Lithium is very reactive and highly flammable, warns the Waste Electrical Equipment Coordination Office (EAK) in light of the hot weather. Batteries should be treated with care and should never be disposed of in household waste, but rather in the designated collection points. The EAK also advises avoiding heat and moisture. Devices should be placed on a non-flammable surface when charging. The battery should not be fully charged or discharged.
